Blue Caprice
The concept of Blue Caprice evolved from Mr. Morosco's conclusion that the proper companion to Sonorities should be a virtuosic solo similar to a Paganini Caprice but based on the Blues, hence Blue Caprice. The intent was "to capture the improvisation and jazz quality I wanted this album to portray, and what form of American music could be more endemic to jazz than the Blues?"
In a classical sense Blue Caprice is a 20th Century form of a Passacaglia or Chaconne on the chord structure and form of the Blues. If one doesn’t have an idea of what these are, it can lead to many misinterpretations. You don’t have to make a life study of it but you should have an idea of what a “Blues” consists of in it’s basic form and harmonic structure.
